Out of Hamburger. Now What?

Listen: Mom To Mom

I know what it takes to feed a family. Every night. Every meal. I know what it’s like for your child to love blueberries one week and spit them in your hair the next.

I know that, for the most part (aside from frozen chicken nuggets and those crumbs they eat off your unswept floor), hamburger is your go-to. It’s the trusty steed. It mixes into anything and your kid eats it. It’s a safe bet.

I’ve also always said, “If Pilaroc ever runs out of hamburger, we are either going out of business or the world is crashing down.” Well, we aren’t going out of business, but we are out of hamburger.

BUT, do not fear. Just maybe, we can try a couple new recipes, new meats, while we are stuck inside and planning our next sit-down meal.

What Pilaroc Has Remaining
We do have a number of “Smash” Burgers remaining. These are pre-made patties that could EASILY be turned into ground hamburger. It’s the same dry-aged, steak-blend, 85/15 ground that is in our 1lb packs, just in patty form. We normally charge more for them since we are charged more from our butcher to turn them into patties, but we are going to absorb that butcher cost and just charge regular ground price.

We have a good supply of ground sausage left. Mild, Hot, Sweet Italian, Hot Italian and Maple Sausage. I know sausage may not be your first choice normally, but it’s good to change up your same recipe every once in a while. Think of using our sweet Italian in your next batch of spaghetti. It will change your life, for the better.

We have 17 flavors of sausage links. The following are the Kid-Friendly flavors and can easily be put on hot dog buns, sliced and thrown in macaroni & cheese, wrapped with a Pilsbury crescent roll, or sliced and baked along with veggies for a one-sheet pan meal (Hello, Less Dishes!!!)

  • German Frankfurter – As close to a hot dog as you can get

  • Bratwurst – What you’re used to in the store

  • Debreziner – Hungarian. Paprika. Awesome.

  • Hickory Smoked – Our new favorite

  • Polish/Kielbasa

  • Polish with Swiss Cheese

  • Mild Italian

  • Irish Banger – Great with fried potatoes and my daughter’s favorite food group – Ketchup

Oh…and these links come from our awesome heritage pork, right here in Lincoln County.

FRIDAY SALE ITEMS

On Friday, at the meat wagon, we will have the following on sale:

  • All-Beef Sausage Links: Sweet Italian, Polish, Bratwurst and Hot. We also have this in ground form. Think of it as hamburger that you don’t have to add spices to.

  • We will also have another SCRATCH AND DENT sale. We won’t have as much as the last S&D sale, but what we do have, we want to pass on to you.

  • And we can still accommodate the Link Lover special that’s going on this month. That’s a big savings on sausage links! Click here to see that special.

RECIPE IDEAS

And lastly, we still have a number of our specialty cuts. While you’re sitting at home, bored to tears, search Pinterest for some fun recipes.

Easy, quick, meals using:

  • Skirt Steak: fajitas, beef and broccoli

  • Hanger steak: Cook/Grill with salt and pepper and serve with French fries, “Steak & Frites”

  • Ground Lamb – YOU MUST TRY a ground lamb burger. You will wonder where it’s been all your life.

  • Flat Iron – Slice thin and put on top of a salad, make beef and butter noodles, or add a can of mushroom soup and some potatoes and put it in the oven for a while.

  • Boston Butt/Picnic Shoulder – Crockpot, shred, BBQ sauce. Pulled Pork!

  • Ham – Don’t just think of hams at Christmas. You can also Crockpot, shred, BBQ sauce. Pulled Pork! Or Crockpot with a can of pineapples and some brown sugar and have leftovers for days!

  • Oxtail – Soup. It’s awesome. Look it up.

  • Leg of Lamb – It’s really not that scary. It’s just a roast. Pick a few herbs. Cook. Eat. We also have “Center Cut” Leg of Lamb. Half the size. All the best meat.

  • Picanha/Sirloin Cap – Got a smoker? This cut is AWESOME. And it’s what you eat at a Brazilian steakhouse. (You can act like you’re at a restaurant since they’re all closed now anyway. But you have to speak Portuguese.)

  • Brisket – You’re used to eating this smoked. But at the end of the day, it’s just a roast. Put that thing in your oven or crockpot. Make sure to let is rest for quite a well once cooked.

  • Short Ribs - Nothing says “home cooked meal” like braised-short ribs.

  • Breakfast: Cubed Ham, Chorizo Breakfast Tacos, Bacon Ends (It’s STILL BACON, people), Maple Breakfast sausage, Mild Patties. Sooo many breakfast meats.

Mom - These are just a few ideas to utilize the cuts we have in inventory. Get creative. We can do this. We will be back in stock with hamburger soon.

And Dad, I know you cook, too. But moms are cooler.
